We have held our Grand National Watercolor Exhibition every year since the mid 1980's at the Mississippi Museum of Art (MMA) and now at the Jackson Art Center, which is adjacent to the new MMA.  The curator staff of the MMA receives, hangs, and mails the paintings for MSWS.   The Exhibition hangs for three months beginning in mid-October and ending in January.  This is a juried show and the judge is always a nationally recognized, out-of-state watercolorist.  The 2008 Exhibition will be juried by Ratindra Das.

The prospectus is mailed to members in the Spring with CD's of your paintings images due in early July.  The prospectus, once available, can be downloaded by clicking here.  :To enter the Grand National, you must be a member of MSWS, although you may join when you submit your CD.  You may enter up to three images of your paintings on a CD; the paintings must be watermedia, framed and under glass.  The judge will evaluate the images and determine which paintings will be in the Exhibition.  The judge will come to Jackson after the paintings are in the Museum to determine which paintings deserve to be awarded prizes.  The total prize money in recent years has been in the $8,000 to $10,000 range with the Best-of-Show winning a $1,500 award and about a dozen paintings awarded $500 to $1,000.

Any artist who has had paintings displayed at three MSWS Grand Nationals is eligible for Signature Member status.  Artists must maintain current, due-paying membership in MSWS to continue to be listed as a Signature Member.  To view the current Signature Members, click here.
